One step at a time

« on: February 22, 2011, 02:31:08 AM »

I accidentally clicked on Report to Moderator and apparently, when I did so, it was on one of my own posts. The message I received was: "You cannot report your own post. That doesn't make any sense!?!"

Um, yeah.I can think of a number of reasons why it could make sense. In fact, some have come up in the time I've been a member here, and I have had to report someone's post, at their request, because they can't report it themself, yet had a reason for wanting it reported. What harm is there in allowing someone to report something they have posted?

It's not allowing it that doesn't make any sense, IMO.

It's a limitation of the software, not our moderators' decision. You cannot report your own post in any version of SMF 1.1.x. (You can in the 2.0 betas.)

I had wondered about this too, because recently I posted something that I quickly realized would have outed me. I immediately tried to report myself but couldn't. So instead, I reported the post above mine and referred the Mods to my post just below it.
