Man, I sure could use some extra income now.  How does one get started tutoring on the ACT, or SAT.

I barely remember taking those tests, myself. What kind of instructors are the big prep centers looking for?

Has anyone just free-lanced it w/o the backing of prep centers?  Any information appreciated.

Thanks all!

The big test prep companies are looking for:
1) folks who aced those tests (usually 95th percentile or above)
2) folks who will willingly attend a low-paid extended training (usually anywhere from a weekend to a week)
3) folks who, during that training, will stick to (and unwaveringly endorse) the company's methods, and who put forth a confident, articulate, approachable and enthusiastic persona

I can't speak to freelancing.

I would stay clear of on-line grading of SAT essays.  A friend of mine attempted to do this several years ago, and the system is totally unreasonable--they will pull the plug on you if you do not quickly meet their correlations.

I think Kaplan is always hiring for that sort of thing.
