In honor of Monita, here is the long-awaited, much anticipated but never duplicated preggers thread!
Where we can discuss the trials and tribulations of pregnancy.
I'll start.
After 18 long weeks, the nausea has finally, finally reduced to a manageable level. Its not gone, but its better!
Down to only 2 Zofran a day (from 4 or 5), and I have been out of the house almost every day. I feel like I lost 4 months. I haven't walked the dog, the mall, the baby stores.... nada. Until this past week. Now I want to cram it all in at one time.
Now.... when will the 3 times a week headaches follow suit?

Yay! Thanks for starting this, Littlefred. I haven't even announced this in real life yet, so it's nice to be able to hop around happily somewhere. :-)
I'm glad your nausea is letting up, and I really hope the headaches calm down soon - that is absolutely miserable. At the moment, I don't feel much different than I would on a PMSy day, but I'm sure that will change soon enough. I have some nausea already, but no vomiting. It seems to be manageable if I eat small amounts throughout the day instead of a few big meals.
My biggest concern at the moment is that I have a conference presentation scheduled in April, a trip to visit family in England in May, and I've JUST submitted a grant proposal for pilot research this summer in Central America. Ooops. I may be one of those pregnant ladies that just chug along and feel fine, but I might turn out to be a major puker and have to ease up on the summer plans. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

That seems to be all we can do Monita!
Survive.
Now that I've had a few decent days though, I am starting to be excited! I was so miserable that its been tough to be excited and happy about this... so its nice to start feeling joyful.
Now, I need to figure out what in Heck to register for!!

May I join? I'm about 8 weeks along, so still very early, though we had an early ultrasound and saw the heartbeat last week. I haven't been on the TTC thread because, well, we weren't trying. So this was a huge surprise. Lest I sound like one of those annoying uber-fertile people who doesn't understand her good fortune, I should note that our 18 month old son was conceived via IVF after over two years of trying (including one failed IVF cycle). So we're pretty shocked that we ended up with an "oops" second pregnancy given our history.
littlefred, sorry about the long months of nausea! Glad you are starting to feel better, though, and starting to enjoy your days. monita, how far along are you?

Of course you can join in cityprof!
I certainly welcome anyone... even uber-fertile people! No judgement here about how whether you were or weren't trying. (although it does seem to be the trendy thing to be struggling with infertility doesn't it? weird)
I have had several people tell me that even though we struggled with getting pregnant this time, it may be easier if we try again. This includes the nurse at the RE-OB. huh.
so, welcome to the preggers club!
I had bleeding for the first few weeks, and also had an early ultrasound. 2 actually because the first one found a cyst. so we got hear the heartbeat at about 8 weeks. They told me the risk of miscarriage went way down once you hear that normal heartbeat!
so, yay for you!
(ok for all of us!)

I'm in the club too! 11 weeks as of today and not yet public in real life, so it's nice to be able to chat freely here. There is much testing still underway. In addition to being 40, it turns out (TMI/interthreaduality alert) that I have an unusually shaped uterus which could potentially complicate matters but might also mean very little to progress. In any case, I'm still pretty tired but started to feel a bit less like a dishrag.
I'm also trying to figure out how much longer I'll be able to keep wearing my regular clothes. So far so good, but it can't be long now until I start busting out.

You know, I only ever bought a few actual maternity things, and that was near the end. I just got some boxy, oversized stuff that I could continue to wear afterward. You might check out Flax, for example, for comfortable clothing that is made to be oversized and to drape a bit--you can pick it up pretty cheaply on eBay, too! A lot of the knit tunics that are popular now with jeans or leggings would probably carry you for a long time, too. And congrats to all of you-- so exciting!

I'm glad to see lots of folks joing in here. It's like our own little fora baby boom. :-) Welcome everyone: pregnant ladies, not-yet (or don't wanna be) pregnant ladies, and experienced mamas!
It's nice to see people at several different stages here. That will be great for those of us who've never done this before. I just missed my period, so I guess that would put me right about 4 weeks... so early that I don't totally believe it yet (despite the 4 positive tests I've taken since Wednesday!) I suppose I should confirm it with a doctor, but right now I'm just happy.

Relationalista, is this baby #1 for you? I know some women get well into the second tri before needing any maternity clothes. But they say you show sooner the second time around, which I'm definitely finding to be true. And since I also have at least one fibroid making me look about 4 weeks further along than I am, I'm pretty sure my regular clothes' days are numbered. I have some maternity clothes still in the house from last time, but the one thing I need right away I can't find! I hate to spend the $26 on a new one.

MsP: those are cute, but not very wintery.... and I do live in the tundra! I may look into one or 2 for when the weather breaks.
I am fortunate that I work from home, so I really just need a few sweats and bigger tops.... the unfortunate part is that I popped out just enough pretty early. So I've been out of my own clothes since about 12. Even with a bella band the jeans just weren't comfy. I have a few sweats that I can wear, but not many. This is my first pregnancy, however, I had abdominal surgery a bit over 2 years ago, so those muscles never went back to the right place.
relationalista: I do like our little baby boom!
monita: yep, I hope it continues! I too took several tests. I didn't tell bigfred either. Until after the 3rd one. I took that one at 7am on Sat, and couldn't wait any longer to tell him. So I woke his A$$ up, waving it wildly!! So, you're certainly not alone there.
cityprof: We are in the same boat. I got just big enough to not fit comfortably into my own clothes at about 11 weeks or so. At this point, my A$$ is just too, too big for my pre-pregnancy jeans. I have a few of those bands too. I bought at least 1 at Target for about $15. But I recommend sizing up. I got a small, and its too tight to wear comfortably.
And I'm small, and only gained about 6 pounds so far!!!
So, I recommend the Target one in a pinch, but not if you can help it. I have found The Gap stuff overall to be terrific. I bought these tanks that I am living in. I wear them under everything! some soft T-shirts too. I ordered a pair of jeans this week... I'll report back.

Yup, this is baby #1 (and only!) for me, which I guess is why I'm not showing much yet. Also, if I had more high-waisted pants I'd be in greater wardrobe trouble, but I'm doing ok so far. I was looking at those Bella bands on eBay and there are some quite good deals -- much better than $25/pop; more like three for the vicinity of $15. I think that's how I'll be buying mine, at least for now. I'm in a cold climate too, but anything that extends the wear-length of t-shirts and sweaters sounds like a good thing to me. And since I'm not due until mid-late August, I anticipate needing them for quite some time.
My positive test story: SO and I were on holiday in Europe over Christmas and I was very late and feeling not quite unwell but not quite right either. I had tested a couple of times before going away and results were negative, so I figured that perimenopause was shifting my cycle. One afternoon while SO was resting I stopped into a local pharmacy and bought a test. Friends were due to join us on the trip that evening (coming from out of country), but I figured I had a bit of time to do the test while my SO was napping and before our friends came, since the airport website said they hadn't yet landed. Turns out not to have been the most reliable airport website. As I was staring at the stick waiting for it to register, the buzzer rang and it was our friends arriving from the UK. I rushed back to the bathroom, the stick had registered positive, and I had to wake up my SO, tell him that our friends were there and that I looked so pale and palpitate-y because I was pregnant but we couldn't talk about it right then. Poor guy; I'm sure he wondered what I was going to wake him up with next time he took a nap! It was quite the out of body (and mind) experience.

I started wearing maternity clothes at 4 months exactly. People were speculating whether I was pregnant or just getting fat. The maternity clothes tipped them off.

And I'm small, and only gained about 6 pounds so far!!! I'm jealous! Do you think that was a side effect of your nausea/headaches, too? I'm not particularly small (size 10-12 pre-pregnancy, and I was closer to the 12 side because of the holidays) but I've already gained 6 pounds. My appetite started to increase before I even knew I was pregnant ("why am I feeling so snacky??" I remember saying to my husband as I scarfed down yet another bowl of popcorn), and now that my own nausea has kicked in eating every few hours seems to be the only thing that keeps me from puking, or fainting. Plus unlike last time, when all sweets disgusted me, this go round I have been craving sugar like crazy. Poor hubby is gaining weight eating all the cookies and cake and ice cream along with me. On preview: relationalista, that's quite a story--surreal, maybe even more for your partner than for you!

It was very surreal. I'm not sure he's recovered yet, and that was well over a month ago!
