Hello all, ye olde seeker of advice here.

Situation: 1st interview scheduled at a CC in the cold north.  Good location, good CC, and seem like nice people.  There is an advertisement for a position in my SO's area at the same CC hu has not applied for yet; the review date for the other job is now past.

I did not particularly think I was competitive for the job, so I mentioned but did not urge my SO to apply to  the other position at the same CC in hu's area (same discipline as mine).  But lo and behold, cold north CC actually called and I have a first interview set up.

The "review begins" date for the other (SO's) job is about three weeks past.  SO is qualified for the job, certainly, but it is not an exact fit (job is a generalist with emphasis on outer space basket-weaving and hu is an expert in underwater basket-weaving), so...

The question: should SO send off materials to the other job at CC now or should we wait and query later after all the stars align and I am offered a job (provided such a thing could even happen).  Which brings up...

Follow up question: I don't think I've ever heard of a CC offering a "spousal hire"--does such a thing happen at CCs?  This is one of the states that is, relative to the times, fairly stable financially and this is a big state college system.

Many thanks in advance.  Moony

The closest thing I have seen to a spousal hire at a CC involved hiring the spouse as an adjunct and then, when a position opened, spouse applied for and got the job.

Yes he should apply. It is a long shot to put it mildly but that is true of most two-body solutions. Good luck.
