I thought this thread was going to be about the Hamster Emeritus.

 This is awesome:

I agree about the retirement age; I'd be happy to see it go up if that improves the long-term position of USS.  What I care about are the move to CARE, the cap in inflation adjustment at 2.5%, the sharing of any increase in contributions, the move from RPI to CPI, etc.

I just get annoyed the the Union's position always seems to be all or nothing... and we get nothing...

Is there a reason I shouldn't enjoy watching AHRC squirm

Maybe their support for the Big Society Con really is just a coincidence, like one of the comments suggests.

I'd love to say "no" and enjoy the hell out of it myself . . . but frankly their squirming rather makes it look as if The Observer has hit the mother lode, and as somebody who began as a humanist, that makes me quite incredibly sad.

And I have a lovely bridge for sale, only one careful local authority owner . . .

Relatedly: what the hell is this stinking piece of propaganda doing on the AHRC web site??  (Comes to my attention via a Leiter report entry)

It must be a "supporting document" for an initiative or theme of some sort -- but even so, why not link to it (it must be available on the Conservative Party website) instead of hosting the damn thing on the AHRC's own site?

I get the feeling that this story is going to run and grow until we see a resignation or two.

<holds nose as she rootles around the AHRC web site's "connected communities" section>

It would seem that this particular stinking turd is actually a presentation given at an AHRC/RCUK "Connected Communities Summit" last June -- http://www.ahrc.ac.uk/FundingOpportunities/Pages/connectcommpast.aspx -- the link is about 2/3s of the way down the page.

Me too.  And I hope so.  Heads should fly over this, even if it does pre-date the government.

Orwell said that political language was designed to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.  Watch it get very windy.  Good-bye Haldane.  Hello Newspeak.

OMG. Looks like the old '50 issues of "Etudes Soviétiques" that I have somewhere in my library. Except it's conservative and not sovietic. And that's the Arts and Humanities Research Council ? Really ?

Where will dumbification stop ?
