I'm impressed by the video project!
If anyone comes up with a way to reach the students who don't read their emails from school, access the CMS for announcements and information, check their mailboxes on campus, or respond to certified letters from a professor, let me know. These are always the one's who miss a submission date and then come crying about how they "didn't know!!!" or "forgot".
You could ask them at the beginning of term for their cell phones and send text messages. We all know they check those!
This semester, I actually did get the cell phone numbers of everyone in my advanced class (it's not an online course) which is only 9 folks, because it's at 8am and the weather's been nuts and the university waits way too late to cancel classes for students who are driving in from the hinterlands.
I have not done this with online students, but might add it as an optional question in first day of class survey in my next online course...
In related news, my online course has a problem due in 90 minutes. 44% have turned it in so far...
