Recently, Rep. Giffords was shot by a former Pima Community College student with a history of severely disrupting class.  His algebra professor states he was so frightened by this student that he expected him to pull out a gun when the professor turned his back to write on the board.

Repeated attempts to rid the classroom of this menace had to be made. 

Is not safety worthy of its own permanent thread on this forum?

I understand and appreciate the intentions behind this suggestion, but I think there are too many topic categories as it is. There have been very good individual threads in "In the Classroom" stemming from questions and concerns about safety issues, and that category as a whole seems to me to be not only a good resource but also the logical place for anyone new to turn if they have questions about students and safety.
