The member-moderators are volunteers from the forums community. They are subject to the same posting rules as regular posters. Their role is limited to spam-killing; moving, merging, and splitting threads; and deleting duplicate threads. Member-moderators have limited deletion powers, and they do
not have the power to modify posts. Only
The Chronicle's on-staff moderators have the power to take disciplinary action against a member who has violated the rules.
Please note that member-moderators do
not have access to posters' private information or e-mail addresses (only the on-staff moderators see reported posts),
nor do they mediate conflicts between members. That's the job of
The Chronicle's on-staff moderators, and the powers to ban posters, block IPs, e-mail addresses, etc. rest only with them.
If you believe that a member-moderator has unfairly deleted your post, you can appeal to
The Chronicle's on-staff moderators explaining why you think your post was deleted in error.
Appeals should be sent via private message or e-mail (
forums@chronicle.com). Don’t hijack a thread to discuss your grievances against a member-moderator or moderator. Member-moderators who abuse their privileges will be removed.
