For various unimportant reasons, I do most of my perusing of the fora not logged in.  Occasionally I'll want to look at someone's profile, for example when something they've recently said mentioned, I'll look at their latest posts instead of trying to figure out what thread the post is on.  Now I have to be logged in to look at a profile.  I'd be interested in the rationale for that.

I can't answer for the mods, but this is standard protocol on many forums, the idea being that it shouldn't be *too* easy for non-registered users to access personal information about registered users. If you are not logged in, the software doesn't know you are wet_blanket; you might as well be someone trying to spam or scam or contact users privately or otherwise get information. (On this forum, we aren't allowed to give too much information to start with, but even so. And does anyone actually fill in the field that asks for their location?)

If this is a recent change, I would imagine that it's due to modifications that were made after the period in which everyone was getting booted when they tried to post. A few things are different now -- for example, I have not had to login a single time since then. Apparently once you are logged in, you stay logged in until you logout. I suppose there are probably other, associated changes.

This is definitely a recent change.  I don't know if it's within the past week or the past month because I don't know for sure when was the last time I was logged out when I tried to browse by latest posts of a particular person, but this morning was the first time that I was redirected to the login screen while attempting to access a profile listed in the active forumites section while not logged in.

It is a recent change. It's one of several things we're doing in an attempt to reduce profile spam.

Best wishes,

Lets see if this post gets deleted, I am going to take a snippet and file it, so I can prove if the post gets deleted

Why would you revive this thread to do that, Vacman?

Why would you have to file any sort of snippet to prove anything?

A better course of action is to post substantive posts that contribute to a conversation in progress somewhere on these fora.  Those posts don't tend to get deleted.  Obviously, you didn't pay attention the last time someone told you why certain posts were deleted (yes, I came across that conversation, and, no, I don't have the power to delete posts), although I see that you no longer have the spam associated with you.

The reason profiles are no visable until you are logged it, is that they are not public, which stops people linking to their own profile, with spammy links, and creating powerful links

Quoting someone else's post in its entirety without comment on a dead thread is not a good test case, either.

Go post something worth reading somewhere (or visit a game thread and post trivia) if you need a test.

Your posts are being deleted because we think you are a spammer.

Here is why we think so:

-- You have not posted anything of substantive value as regards the main purpose of the site. I will let you figure out what that is. In general, people who tend to post (repeatedly) about spam tend to be spammers.

-- Your posts do not conform to standard English spelling, grammar, or punctuation. This is another frequent sign of a spammer. At the very least it suggests that you have not read our posting rules.

-- A Google search of your moniker reveals many commercial sites. This is, of course, another common indicator that someone is spamming. Signing up with a moniker that is the same as that of a commercial site and making NVA (no-value-added) posts just so the moniker/company name will show up on a quality site is itself spam, although you may not have included any actual links.

But of course you know all this already.
