Any feedback on working there in the Humanities/Arts and living in London would be much appreciated.

What would it be like to move from a big North American city to London? Would you make the move if the jobs are comparable?

Wasn't there a huge employment controversy there last year? The elimination of the Palaeography professorship consumed the most oxygen, but I recall hearing that there was more to it than that...

Can somebody else speak better to this?

Originally, I believe that the plan that also eliminated the Paeleography chair also involved everybody in the humanities reapplying for their jobs and justifying why they should keep them.

As for life in London, we've had plenty of threads on that. House/flat/rental prices remain insane, and the cost of living has gone up, up, up.

I would want to be very sure that the upper level admin has either left or wisened up before taking a post there.  What they tried to do there last year was an abomination.  There was excellent coverage of what was happening in the Leiter Reports philosophy blog (as Philosophy was one of the areas targeted as well):

Note, in particular, that one of the people they tried to sack (Lappin) had had assurances just six months before they tried to get rid of him that no such plot was in the making, and he turned down an offer of a post elsewhere as a consequence.  So, these people (Rick Trainor and whoever else) really cannot be trusted one bit.  Get everything in writing and checked by a good lawyer before you take these clowns as bedfellows.
