I'm applying for TT jobs at several all-women's SLACs, and I've been continually surprised that the % of women faculty in these departments is no better than co-ed SLACs and usually less than at R1 departments.  Several of them are 100% men.

I know that male professors have an important role to play in women's issues (e.g., promoting women in science), but I had imagined that all-women's SLACs would be more motivated to have women faculty, to mentor and inspire.

Is this not the case?  Do all-women's SLACs not care about the gender spread in their faculty more than co-ed schools?

This topic begs for a heated and unenlightening squabble discussion about the role of gender in academia.

How did this get overlooked by the forum?  I am ashamed of you all.

You are among the Pure and Truthful, however small their Number.
My goodness, that was an exceptionally good analysis of the forum.

I don't know about all women's colleges.....

I am associated with one - although I work at another college - this one has a better underwater basket weaving library, so I do work with them for research.  This college made a committement to having women in leadership positions and full time faculty.  There are a couple of gentlemen on the faculty- all adjuncts and all in very specialized niches....

That is my 2 cents.  I think it is certainly doable .....
