20 minutes after deadline, done. And I wonder why it takes me so long to grade papers when it takes me this long to grade presentations that I've already seen and taken notes on. Yarrrgh indeed!
I don't even know what to tackle next, short of sleep.

Caught in the suet pudding and flypaper of fact-checking...but making headway.

11:28 pm: just found what may be a plagiarized paper.
garghhhhh!!!!!!!!
Even better, this same student just sent me a request to go to a military funeral of friends of the family of her boyfriend (something like that) and be excused from class. When I reminded her that she would need to bring me documentation, she wrote this:
Hello, I am very sorry about this but please disregard my last e-mail. I will be attending class. Something has come up, so I will be here. Sorry about all of this. Thanks for understanding.
I am so tempted to send this lying little brat to the Dean.
Ok, sorry. I am chatting. No chatting. Grading!
amended: this still counts as new paper #3 !

Ok, more to be done on #1 but the points are noted and can be followed up later.
On to #2....!
Oh, that's in better shape, done.
OK, #3...

So, #3 wasn't too bad, on to #4.
Sorry to hear about the plagaristic possibility; they take so much TROUBLE at it, don't they?
And it only makes more (trouble, that is).

OK, #4 was in decent enough shape as well.
So, returning tomorrow to #1 to clean up stuff, when I don't have to prop my eyelids open with toothpicks--but this was helpful...let's see....what can I work on tomorrow!?

12:01 am: new paper #5 (kid is a vet, he's writing a paper about the psychology of warfare and this paper is already totally breaking my heart)
della: yes, I hate hate HATE the time-suck of the cheaters and liars. I want them all to be kidnapped by aliens!
Ok, I'm signing off for tonight, folks. I don't have a very impressive pile of graded stuff, but I still feel this indescribable variety of giddiness that grading is even happening. Usually I can't even bring myself to do this mid-week. I just wait for it all to ruin my weekends.
Thanks for your company, everyone! I will definitely be back tomorrow, maybe even midday.

Checking in this morning. I need to get 10 papers graded before class today. Not sure it will happen, but I will read no other posts until I have an update.
