Holiday Peeps are out.  I bought snowmen and trees for a friend who likes them.  I also bought a choc-covered mint Peep for myself.  I thought it would go well, as I liked the pumpkin marshmallow Peep.  But the mint chocolate Peep was not. good.  Bleh.

I just saw at Trader Joes chocolate-covered mint marshallow pillows, or some such.  I was wondering if they'd be any good or not. They might be a fancy-pants version of mint chocolate peeps.

(Sorry, I couldn't find a link to clarify what I'm talking about. I was quickly distracted by chocolate-filled french toast...)

There's a review of the Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Minty Mallows at the very bottom of this page:
http://www.candyblog.net/blog/category/traderjoes/

The actual review goes into detail about the product (includes pics), but here's the conclusion:

"For the most part I found these odd. One is rather rib-stickingly satisfying, so a box of 9 or 10 of these goes a long way. I didn’t try melting them for S’mores or in Hot Chocolate. I don’t know if I’ll buy them again, but I found them far superior in ingredients, satisfaction and even presentation from the Just Born Peeps."

Valentine's Peeps are out.  The new chocolate-covered raspberry-flavored marshmallow heart Peeps are good.

I don't know if I'll try them, Alto_stratus, but Dear SO might be interested.

I recently ate Toffifay.  Now that's good candy.

Freaky. Mr. Wonderful just had his first Toffifee. We have a houseguest from Austria who insisted we try it. I'm waiting until tomorrow as I've already eaten too much today.

Our local Target had Halloween Peeps on sale and then Christmas Peeps on sale, and I ate them until I couldn't eat them any more. It was wonderful until it was awful, but the Valentine Peeps just aren't calling me quite the same this year.

Did Mr. Wonderful like it?  I hope you enjoy yours, Octoprof!

Does your houseguest have more?  Is your houseguest looking for a place to stay in MyCity?
Did I mention I like Toffifay a lot?

Thanks for the lead, I will have to try it.  I do love chocolate hazelnut filling.

Easter candy is out already, and it looks like there's a lot of new stuff this year.

The (new?) Peeps Crispy Rice Marshmallow Treats are good.  They taste like birthday cake.

A week or two back, something called to mind the Callard & Bowser butterscotch candy.  Some of you may recall it came in a cardboard package, each piece wrapped in tin foil.  So I did some online searching, thinking I could find a source, maybe order some.  But, alas, they stopped making it.

My immediate reaction was that Keiller's is nearly as good (as my many fillings can testify) . . . but a bit of searching shows that they've stopped making sweets as well. The only possibility would be if you could find an independent Scottish sweetmaker who still makes proper Scottish butterscotch. Maybe Taste of Scotland would have a link?

I saw the Easter Peeps in the store over the weekend (yes, before Ash Wednesday--the kid who gets the last box out now, for Easter, will likely break a tooth).  They had some pretty colors I hadn't seen before:  pale green, pale lavender (not that dark garish color they used to have), and a pale orange/peach color.  Might have to buy a box this weekend, just to test them out and make sure they're safe, of course.

If you have a local Trader Joe's, RUN don't walk and buy a box or two of their assorted chocolates, left over from Valentines and now on sale for $5/1 lb box. This is an excellent assortment of fancy chocolates, milk and dark. I'm more of a dark chocolate fan, but even the milks are tasty. Fillings include caramel+sea salt, toffee, nuts, fudge, truffle, orange, raspberry, and lemon. (I'm finicky about fruity chocolate, and these were good).

Of course, they are branded as TJ's, but I'm wondering what brand they actually are. Go buy a box and help me with my research!
