Will somebody suggest a good reading pillow (for bed)? Because of a temporary household arrangement, I am trying to explore possibilities of studying in the bedroom. My bedroom is very tiny, with no coach or chair. There is a good memory foam mattress. I remember seeing some kind of reading pillow on TV long time ago which looked comfortable for hours of sitting up and reading (on the laptop, not paper books; I'm trying to go as paperless as possible). Does anybody know? I have tried the big down pillow and therapeutic curvy pillow but my neck doesn't like them after about an hour the maximum. Pictures and/or links are highly appreciated.

Yep.

Or one of these:

I second the husband idea, but I will also add:

I used to have a husband, but I was always just a shade too tall for it.  What I needed was a wingback-height husband, but I never could find such a thing.  What worked for me was to put the bed in the corner, put the husband along one wall with the arm along the other wall.  Then, I'd put a bolster on top of the husband to support my neck & upper back when I wanted to sit upright.  To get full back support on the husband, I'd have to slouch, and slouching on the bed turned into sleeping with ease.

I'd get yourself a basket to put all of your pens and supplies in, too, to avoid waking up in the middle of the night with a flashdrive or pencil poking you in the side.  Can you hang an adjustable reading light on the wall?  Once you get a set up that works, you might want to add a shelf for the coffee cup, too, unless you've got a windowsill to use.

(Clearly, been there, lived that.)  Good luck!

I am kind of partial to this one http://www.amazon.com/Brentwood-Animal-Fur-Bedrest-Zebra/dp/B0037KLIZQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=bedbath&ie=UTF8&qid=1287964027&sr=1-4. However, I just stand up a couple of pillows against the wall and that works for me!

I can't move the bed as glowdart suggests because the bookshelves have already taken up all the open walls. I have just ordered one of the bedrests online anyway. The stationary and coffee cup can continue to stay on the bed table. Thank you so much, forumites! Hopefully this bedrest will arrive before the massive load of readings are due.

Yes, and good luck. Lots of pillows should work in the meantime!

You may also want to consider getting a lap desk.

http://www.amazon.com/Natural-19-Wood-Lapwrite-Lapdesk/dp/B000LO9VFA/ref=pd_sbs_k_8

The version given to me as a graduation gift several decades ago is very similar to this one (Thanks, Auntie _____).  The plastic versions are cheaper but much less durable.

This is a very good idea and can prevent lapburn http://pagingdrgupta.blogs.cnn.com/2010/10/05/laptops-toast-and-discolor-skin/?iref=allsearch

I use one of these, though mine dates from when they were made from solid maple, not plastic. - DvF

Gosh, I wonder if that would hold a book too?  That's a FANTASTIC invention.  (I guess I could bungee the book to it, but it would be hard to turn the pages.)

Confused and sad. Or happy. I'm not sure...

WANT. Want badly. Must save funds to indulge....
What a totally awesome invention. I have the original lap desk and it solves most problems... except it won't let me lie down. Lying down to work would be so nice... I might never get out of bed again.

Think clean thoughts, people!

Sure, up to the limits of gravity; the flatter you are on your back, the more upright you have to adjust the desk, and at some point the book will likely attack you.  (This could happen with a laptop too; my lap desk comes with a velcro strip so you can securely attach your laptop to the desk, I've never used it, and did on one occasion while extremely flat have my machine flop over onto me.)

There are inexpensive clones available on eBay, which I think is why the company that invented them stopped selling the nice maple ones, they couldn't compete with the Chinese imitators; search for "laptop bed desk". - DvF

Have you tried the WondaWedge? www.wondawedge.com  It's an inflatable reading pillow - my son got one as a gift and it's great for studying in bed.  When he's not using it, he partially deflates it and stores it under the bed.  Pretty cool.

Oh yes, that's the one I saw on TV long time ago! I've already ordered a bedrest but thank you, lamachita, WondaWedge can serve as a backup if the bedrest doesn't work.
