I wanted to know on average - how long between when your position closed and when you were notified that you would be interviewed or had been short listed. I applied for a position that closed on Thursday and according to the the original posting - interviews will be held at the end of the month. I've been obsessively checking my phone since the position closed. I'm dying to hear something so I thought asking this question of the troops would be a good distraction. Thanks in advance!

Generic answer: it depends on the institution.

I've had one notify me the Friday before the interview on Tuesday... and I had to complete a presentation on a topic of their choice.

For my current position I was notified about 4 weeks after the closing date, but didn't get the email for another week as I was on holiday - meaning I got it on the Thursday for a Friday interview the other end of the country.

Thankfully they pushed my interview to the Monday when they were interviewing for another position, as normally they aren't flexible.

I have received calls for an interview after the close date of an application ranging anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months.  I don't tend to rely on timelines in the original posting as these are ideal cases and life/university business often interferes with these timelines.  I have been called for an interview with as little as 24 hours notice (for a second interview) at a school that was about a 6 hour drive away (I was offered the job - so it was worth the drive).

Good luck.
