So people really take this seriously? When I worked in Australia before there were no specific vacation time for academic staff. Only in the last few years this came in due to changes in legislation that required that vacation time taken formally be noted. But I don't have any sense of how seriously it is taken as actual time off. Sorry, for derailing this thread :)

I also get 40 days. I think senior lecturers upwards get 42 days. I haven't used all of them in the past, but I will do once britkid #1 is at school.

From what I remember, York stated the same 40 days back in 1993 but no-one ever recorded them. In Australia the standard is 20 days.
