A couple of months ago I applied for UI and was worried that my school would not re-hire me if I actually succeeded in getting benefits.  Well, I did get benefits, and yesterday the department secretary informed me that I've been scheduled to teach again.  So even though I won't sign the contract for two weeks yet, it seems that my fears were unfounded.

Just wanted to let everybody who helped me out then know.

Good. And I'm glad you were able to get unemployment when you didn't have a job.

Glad to hear it, and thanks for the update. Unfounded fear feels the same as well-founded fear, I've noticed.

As reported by the Chronicle a few years ago, universities have been increasingly playing the "BS" Game--i.e., "we're going to hire this adjunct back anyway, so hu doesn't deserve unemployment benefits."  Eventually the adjunct is fired anyway because the administration is angry.  I'd say you were very, very lucky.
