T-3 weeks until the start of the fall semester and I have had my first "the syllabi are not copied" dream/nightmare. What makes this more interesting is that we don't give out syllabi anymore, they're available on Blackboard for students to download.

What do you have to do/left to do to prepare for the fall semester?

Doing laundry (still)

As I'm wrapping up my online summer class tonight, there's no more excuses. I must copy my online class over to the fall section and revise all the dates and such. Ugh.

But good news, all my handouts and quizzes to get me through the first three weeks of face to face classes are done, copied, and sitting on my desk!

Oh, and I need to remember how to get up and out of the house before noon.

This summer is going by way too quickly.  I don't even want to think about the fall!  I must say, however - a busy schedule actually serves my productivity well.

I've ordered my books, but I still need to tweak my syllabi and upload assignment descriptions on Moodle.

Ack!  I know what I'll be doing--three classes, two of which have labs and the other for which I provide the lecture portion.  The main tasks are to get acquainted with the (new) school's CMS, acquire the textbooks (it's been a challenge to do so from afar, so far), figure out lecture sequences, find where things are stored in the labs, move into a new office, design the labs for the two lab classes, figure out what sorts of technology are available in the rooms in which I'll be teaching, and locating the campus coffee shop--but not necessarily in that order.

At least I've got a headstart on the syllabi for each course.  Hopefully, the rest will fall into place shortly!

This.

I just realized that I have three new preps for the fall and I spent the past month fooling with the one class that I already had reasonably well prepped, but not quite perfect.

I had 1 new prep and 1 regular class. I did my thing last month. I'll take a quick look again the first of next month, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm done.

This month is for writing.

It's called planning...It also helps not to have little kids, letting the local art and music fairs be your vacation, and no need to visit relatives. That last one is priceless, lemme tell you...

This. Miss too much if I put my head back under the covers. Besides, there is construction going on outside my bedroom window.

I'm there with you.

I have no new preps for Fall but I do have to rework my classes.

I got relatively low evaluations for the first time for an unpopular requirement course I teach. It's not that big a deal in that everyone recognizes that it's one of those courses where it is hard to get high evaluations but I usually manage to do okay -- not this time. And I could feel it as I was teaching; I wasn't really putting that much into the course because I had taught it so many times and it all just felt stale. I'm also teaching a course I taught before but it's been a year and a half... Need to look at that too. ::sigh::

I refuse to do anything until two weeks before classes start, at most! We get tenured on publications and research, although I suppose it would matter if someone constantly bombed teaching.

New Year's resolution: Teach to the syllabus

If I don't look at the calendar, time doesn't move forward.
Ms. Microbe is too busy making brownies and stuffing her face to look at the calendar. The noise from the mixer drowns out the OP. She remains blissfully ignorant of what OP said.

Have some brownies. I'm taking the kids to the pool and pretending it's June.

Lalalalala. I can't hear you.......

I have told my boyfriend he is responsible for letting me know when the 28th rolls around so that I can go to campus for a lunch meeting.

But I am making my new variation on cowboy cookies (whole wheat flour, a touch of applesauce - they are both denser and moister than mama's version, even though I used her recipe as a base) and apples brown betty. What? I eat steel cut oatmeal, so this old fashioned stuff only works for baking!!

In the fall, I have two new preps and one class I haven't taught in a year.  I am finishing up a summer class, trying to work on research, growing a baby, and getting the house ready for baby.

Classes start in less than a month.

Hold me? :)
