I wasn't expecting anything, but it appears everyone is getting 3% this year. A nice surprise!

We have been told that IF we get a raise, it wont be until January, and that is dependent on some nebulous increase in tuition and enrollment.

They have not specified how much either/both tuition and/or enrollment must go up.  They have been silent about the amount of this potential raise.

Then there was the "accident" on how we were getting paid for summer.  The reader's digest version is that they paid me (and everyone in my college) over a longer period, so that they tried to keep in my case alone, $1900 until September instead of paying me on July 1.  I complained about a week before the last pay period, but they "could not fix it" before July 16.  It may be an accident as the person in our college who does the paperwork is new this year), but it seems rather 'convenient'.

No COL increases or merit raises again this year.

Nope. I can deal with the no-COL, but not getting merit pay after the year (and work towards merit) is done really bites.

Apparently the state of VA has a surplus which allows for a 3% bonus (but no raise). Well, at least there's that much.

You know, our usual COL increase is larger than our merit raises are (we're an underfunded humanities dept), but I am more pissed off about the loss of the merit raises than the COL bump.  My book comes out this year, and I get bupkis.

1% -- better than cut but almost seems meaningless

Please.  I'd be surprised if we don't have a permanent salary freeze.  Several years ago (during the last budget boo boo) we got contracts without stated salaries.  Signing that document gave me some pause.

I'm just glad to have a job.

I suppose that we are entitled to the minimum wage.  What I would be afraid of is that they would then decide that we are only working when in the classroom.

I lined up a high school job and scheduled an appointment with the dean.  The unsigned high school contract with a salary listed slid across the desk during the meeting.  I asked if I needed to sign the high school contract.  Got a salary written on my contract at that point.

No cost of living increase or merit pay for the last six years (at two separate institutions).  If that isn't bad enough health insurance went up and the legislature just voted to raise the retirement contribution by one percent.  I have a daughter who will be a senior in high school next year so I'm not only looking at paying tuition but the inevitable increases that are forthcoming.  But hey the dow is over 10,000 and wall street bonuses are in the billions so it's all good, right?
