I've heard that being a member of ACM and IEEE is considered a plus when you apply for a graduate school. Is that true? (I'm a Software Engineering student right now)

It can't hurt:  it shows some awareness of the role and usefulness of a professional society.  You might also enjoy the magazines: both ACM and IEEE publish high quality, interesting magazines (IEEE Spectrum is more general interest than ACM, though).

Thanks for your reply.

You are right. I am thinking about becoming a member of ACM (its membership is not expensive just ~50$ per year).

BTW, just now I realized that I have posted my question in School & College forum. I should have post my question in Grad-school forum! My bad!
