Hi,
Well I did good work this year and was recommended to return for second temporary year by my dean. Discussions with upper administration led to a national search.
There are 55 applications, mine included. Classes end in 3 weeks. No interviews have been set up yet and they want to decide by the end of May. I am hanging in there, attending meetings, running study groups, preparing classes. I have a summer class, too, and income until mid-August.
I am having a hard time being productive. Another temporary instructor just went through this and was hired as a permanent employee.
Any words of advice?
It seems to me that you're doing about all you can do. Keep on doing your job, and being present and visible to members of the department.
I understand that it's hard to be productive under these circumstances, but I'd suggest digging out a paper to revise, applying to conferences, or even starting a new project. If you can focus on something you're interested in, it will divert your attention to something worthwile and give you something to talk about in the interview that people in the department don't already know about you.
Best of luck to you!
