I have noticed that he Petroleum Institute Abu Dhabi, UAE, is continuously posting jobs, most of them have been already posted many many times. It seems that they are either looking for very distinguished people, which I doubt, or addicted to the FUN of job posting. I do not think they even bother themselves reading the applications they receive. What do you think?

I agree with you. I have the same conclusion.
I posted my application last year and I received a notification telling that they received a huge quantity of applications...!
But the posting is always there !!!!

Dear Newfact,

I'm inclined to think that the PI and other institutions are simply hedging their bets against no-shows and folks who don't work out.

And more recently, a colleague received this from the PI in response to his application for an Asst. Prof. position:

Please note that due to other commitments and shift in manpower projections, the review process of the applications for the Communication Faculty (College of Arts and Sciences) has been postponed.

We placed your resume in our future reference file to be reviewed as openings become available.

We thank you again for your participation in our search process and we will let you know the status of your application once the search committee resumes their evaluations for this post.

I agree. PI is only posting jobs for fun !

I applied in 2008, and was immediately rejected, but that job ad was there for a long time.

Now they are doing the same trick again. So much fun for PI !

The HCT also has a highlevel of turnover and like the Institute, they are often searching. Even the Provost wants to leave but for now no one wants him

God, it's really a cautionary tale, isn't it?  The high-level administrators come over to this region after bouncing around the bottom of the barrel of US academic administation for decades and then leave again.  Do they do their jobs well and then leave for the next challenge or are they failing at each job and leaving in disgrace?
