With the erupting Icelandic volcano, has anyone here or know someone who's had an overseas flight affected by the ashes?  I'm sure it's no fun being stuck on an extended layover!

I have a friend stuck in Dublin until Saturday.  And she is not crying in her Jameson's.

Ironically, a colleague of mine who works in volcanology and was in England for unrelated reasons is now stuck there.

My spouse and children are trapped in Belgium: luckily, they're staying with family, and have a rescheduled flight for Sunday. Assuming the airport is open by then, that is.

Google tells me it should be "Eyjafjallajokull" but I think google is just being lazy about the o with the dots on it.

One of the variables in my code that I am working on now is called prof_x. This post reminds me I should be working.

Our trip to Europe is in a week. Hopefully this will be over by then.

I wouldn't count on it.  I'm having second thoughts about buying tickets to go to the US this summer.  The volcano has been erupting non-stop, no sign of letting up.  The winds might change -- but they might not.

If I were you, I'd be studying the conditions of my travel insurance very carefully.

Well, they should switch back to the usual prevailing westerlies and send the cloud off to bother the Ruskies, but when they do, it's also back to the usual rain, rain, rain, with a side order of rain.

I'm supposed to be flying from the UK to Washington DC on Wednesday. We'll see.

Of much more concern is that we have field courses scheduled to fly this weekend. I have no idea what plan B is!

WH is supposed to be flying to NYC tomorrow. Somehow we don't think so ;-)

Um, does Plan B actually exist?
