Has anyone else read Mark Hyman's The UltraMind Solution?  I have a couple of friends who have gone to naturopathic doctors and, while it may be too early to tell, have had some initial success addressing problems such as chronic migraines and lack of energy, among other health issues.

While a lot of the basic advice seems pretty harmless and healthful (eat your veggies, avoid processed foods, etc.), the claims of being able to reverse depression, ADHD, autism, etc. seem...I don't know...overly dramatic?  There's also a lot of information about what various proteins and vitamins actually do for us once digested.

I was just wondering if anyone else had read the book and tried the 6 week program which is supposed to get one's system "back into balance?"  I'm sure it's not as simple as it's made out to be in the book, and I'm only halfway through the book, but I have dropped caffeine, alcohol, gluten, most dairy (don't know if I can give up cheese entirely) and MSG (and as much as I can, anything that's labeled as having "natural flavors").  So far so good--I do seem to have more level energy through the day.

Or has anyone else consulted a naturopathic doctor?  I'm not even sure I could find a reputable one in my area...

I would automatically be suspicious of anybody who claims to have solutions to all health problems, and will share it with us all for only $27.50 (Buy now for $18.95!).  Anyways, the type of hyperbole that's used there is common in quacks such as Atkins and aptly-named "self-help" Gurus (guess who's the "self" that's being helped?).  Besides, person with a real new cure demonstrates the effectiveness of his/her cures through tests and double-blind controlled research, not through questionable testimonials attached to photo's of cute kids and adults with touched-up photos, all extolling the virtues of the person asking for your money.
For example, the people who discovered the bacterial source of stomach ulcers did not create a website toting a new book on "How You Can Prevent and Cure Ulcers with this Simple Treatment!".

I am willing to sell you a copy of Dr. Spork's Healthy Diet Advice for the low low low price of $14.95.  It contains all the secrets that BioMedPharmaTech doesn't want you to know but that the ancient grandmothers of the Aegean islands have known for centuries, such as:

- eating vegetables is healthy
- sleeping is healthy
- exercise is healthy

So get my book now!

You forgot:
John Perry, a 15-year old kid, suffered from weight problems and chronic exhaustion until he following my three simple rules, and now he feels much better.  In his own words:  "Wow!  Who would have thought that eating vegetables and sleeping 9 hours a night would make me feel better than staying up all night playing video games and living off of candy bars and coke!  Dr. Spork, you are a genius!"
