I gave my qualifying exam committee members bottles of wine a couple of weeks after the exam. They were all pleased. This said, I have a good relationship with all of these people.
I wouldn't break the bank, and don't buck traditions in your department. I think you can be nice and show your appreciation without sucking up. Getting the reputation as the friendly, easy to work with graduate student who sincerely cares about the time and effort faculty put in doesn't seem to be the worst thing. This is an approach to my work that I hope to carry on to my life as a faculty member.
