I have a renewable position at a university in a city we both really like.  We've been here for over a year and it's really grown on us.  Husband is finishing his dissertation.  Ideally, we'd like to stay here.

There are only two colleges here.  In my own, there are no openings for a full-time position, and they already have someone in the exact specialization as my husband's.  The other college is a tiny SLAC (circa 1,000 students), and they have a total of 1 person in my husband's entire field (whereas usually there is a whole department). Husband wrote that professor, introduced himself, and asked if they could have coffee sometime. The professor wrote back very warmly, found interests and places in common, and asked husband to contact him during break. Husband did and got no response. It's been a few months.

I'd love for my husband to work there. There are no positions, and I know the prof. cannot create them single-handedly -- heck, he hasn't even responded to that last message. But I am wondering if my husband should write back.  If so, any suggestions on how we can do that so that husband doesn't look like a stalker and we don't sound desperate? :) Thanks!

Husband should not ask about a position but rather say "I would love to teach a class for your institution sometime. Would there be any interest in X or Y?"
