Edinburgh: The castle and Royal Mile, as already suggested. The National Museum of Scotland is also worth a visit.

I would avoid the castle if you are there for the week either side of Easter - it will be mobbed by tourists. In fact, I would avoid the castle during all major vacations: it is a great place to visit, but not with hordes milling around (and yes, since you ask, I do have distinctly asocial tendencies).

Don't worry about restaurants--Cambridge eateries are terrible.

I'm surprised to find I'm not the only person who thinks this!  I seem to remember an oyster bar that was quite pleasant, but of course, I was very, very drunk.

On top of bad food, you get London prices. Food capital of the UK for me will always be Birmingham (yes, London is amazing, but the prices are pretty amazing too).
