Other than validating that you need to see it from their side, I wonder what would happen if they offered you the job. Could you move with your pets? I mean, might you moving internationally?

True, that.  Moving pets into the US is much much easier than moving them into the EU, logistically.

Holland institutions are preocuppied with getting women faculty. That is news to me since other European countries don't have those ideas.

And people would give up a job because it's a hassle to move a pet?
That is surprising to me.

I am in dire financial straits (not to mention watching my career sink into an abyss of nothingness) so i would be sad to say goodbye to a pet but I'd take the job. Is that not the usual way this would be handled? I've been wanting to get a pet but i didn't realize they could make you so attached. I also hadn't thought about not being able to leave without a sitter (which might cost money).

Well, I guess I'll give up my dream of getting a puppy. If you don't want that job and it's in my field will you pass them my name? I'll peel skin off my arm for a good job especially in Holland.

Hi all,

Re pets: I am in the UK, with the strictest laws about moving pets here (and I moved my cats from the US to here without issue). Moving them to Holland would not be a problem. What was a problem is arranging care for them at the last minute, when they told me the day before (or same day) I was to leave it was a 3 night trip instead of one.

However, the scheduling issue continues to be a problem. They offered a skype interview on Tuesday and I let them know the same day that it was fine. They emailed me Tuesday evening to say how about Friday and I replied the next morning (yesterday) that I could do Friday and how about 11am my time?

It's now been over 24 hours. I had another interview today in London, so (because I'd not heard back from them about interview time) before I left I emailed the chair to say that I was looking forward to his reply, but I would be without internet access all day because of the travel/interview, so I would reply when I returned in the evening (just now; nearly 7pm my time). I didn't want him to think I was blowing him off if I didn't reply until late.

I get home, and there's no reply. So, apparently they will email me at some point tomorrow morning asking for an interview?

I'm sorry, but I have other things I need to do for my current job tomorrow morning, so I can't sit by my computer waiting for a reply then jump to it unless it's around the time I suggested. Otherwise I need to move some meetings around to accomodate the interview, which I could do if it's not last-minute. But now it will be last-minute.

I'm starting to really think this whole thing is doomed.

Ok, Larry, will call tomorrow morning and see what's up. I just haven't had these scheduling problems with other places, that's all. I don't know what's going on.

Yes, phone.

And do the interview whether you are disenchanted with the process or not. Else you may be plagued by what-ifs. You can't judge the campus by its HR department. I nearly canceled an interview nine years ago, because of the way it was being handled by HR. But I sucked it up and went anyway. I got the job and love it.

Also, if it's only a Skype interview and no traveling, it could be worth it for the practice alone.
