Don't go.  That was a breech of netiquette.

Lately my hypos have gotten such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the forum, and methodically knocking people's hats off.

Did someone mention hippos, the largest amphibians in Africa?  <interthreaduality>

The White Whale swam before him as the monomaniac incarnation of all those malicious agencies which some deep men feel eating in them, till they are left living on with half a heart and half a lung.

Which is more likely to help me in the immediate job search, hippotherapy or rhinoplasty?

Anth, you have an assignment. Despite its formidable reputation, MD is a total hoot.

Absolutely!

Emotions run high when it comes to Moby Dick, both here and in my real life.  But the very worst thing you can do is sit down all serious-like to read THE GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL, Mobyyyy Dick and miss the fact that major sections of the novel are a very intentional goof.

Ditto, Poor Richard's Almanac, btw.

Now, see, that I've read.  And I've read lots of Hemingway and Fitzgerald and Hersey and Buck (on my own, even, in high school--honest!).  Just not Moby Grape.  Er, Duck.  Er, Dick.

Melville had a better sense of humor than all four of the authors you name, put together and then squared.  Cubed, even.

Melville and Benjamin Britten are two great tastes that taste great together.
