I am looking for funding to study abroad this May 2010. Any suggestions aside from using balance of loan? (Which is what I live off of.) The school offers funding, but it is for only 1/3 of costs and doesn't include airfare.

It's a bit late to apply for the few things I know about but you might want to check out this website.  You have to dig through lots of things that won't apply to you and but you might find some thing random for which you are eligible.  Good luck.

I am sick and tired of following my dreams.  I think I'll just ask them where they are going and catch up with them later.  Mitch Hedberg

I'm not sure if the deadline is past already, but if you're studying a less-commonly-taught language, you might want to look into the FLAS programs. If you ask at your school's study abroad office they'll probably be able to tell you more.

For the most popular and competitive programs that fund graduate research or study abroad, the application deadline for study in the following year is generally at the end of August or some time in October. In other words, you're unlikely to find anything that will send you abroad in May of this year.

However, for specific programs (and especially languages, or study in a particular country) there are sometimes local short-term grants, often funded by a "Sons of X-country" organization in your city or by small country-specific or language-specific foundations. Ask the overseas study office at your university if they know of any such programs; also ask the reference librarian in your university library about directories of grant funding.

Thanks all. I thought it might be a bit late, but I just discovered the fantastic research opp and was hoping to discover untapped sources.
