At my tiny state college, we've been using WebCT CE for quite a while now. Despite the numerous complaints I've read on the fora here, I don't really have a problem with it. Sure, it's counter-intuitive; but, for the most part, I've gotten rather adept at using some basic course functions: discussion boards, email, assignments, and the like.
Here's the question: I cannot for the life of me figure out how to migrate a quiz for one section to another section. I can copy it over as a zip file, but there's no option under "Assessments" to import the quiz. Thus, I wind up typing out multiple copies of the same quiz or test for different sections of the course. Since it's rather easy to migrate most content from section to section, I assumed that I could move quizzes, as well. So far, I can't figure out how to do so.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This question might get more answers if you ask the moderators to the move the thread to Online Teaching.
I don't know if this will help, since I use Blackboard, but I have a similar problem. I can't copy an individual test. I use the unwieldy method of copying all my tests from one course shell to another with "course copy." To get around the hundreds of duplicate tests I sometimes accumulated by the end of a semester, I now ask the system administrators to create an umbrella shell that combines sections for my multi-section courses. There are some drawbacks (gradebook is not updated by registrar, must be done manually) but it make things easier.
This might not be similar to Web CT. Are you sure there is nothing under Assessments, though? If you create a new test, do you have the option of importing a set of questions into that test (as opposed to importing a test)? I can do that but don't because it takes longer than copying the entire set of tests.

Thanks much.
Do I just ask the mods here?
Or, how I do go about doing so?

I used the "report to the moderator" feature under the post to make the request. You can't do it for your own post (you could do it on someone else's post in the thread). There is another way to send a message to the moderators, but I forget what it is.

This won't help your current scenario, but do you use Respondus for creating quizzes/exams? It's software separate from any CMS, but you create the quizzes in there. Once you have them, it's easy to publish them into various online classes, regardless of the platform (WebCT, BB, ANGEL, Moodle, etc.). I think that the Respondus interface is much better than any of the in-CMS quiz editors I have worked with.

Under "Importing Quizzes, Surveys, Self Tests, and Questions" in the Online Help (edited): 1. On the course menu, under Designer Tools, click Manage Course.
2. Click Import.
3. Locate and select the zip file you want to import.
4. After the content package finishes importing, if you want to view a log that contains details about the import process: a. Click View Import Log. b. When you are finished viewing the import log, click Close.
5. Click Return.
Your quiz will now appear in your assessments.

Thanks for the info, Hedge, but this doesn't work. The problem is that the quizzes themselves don't appear as exportable content. You can't get to the files from the menu. I'm still trying to figure this out.

Glad you sorted it out.
I want to add another plug for Respondus. Even if you're happy with the tests/quizzes you've created, you should see if your institution has a Respondus subscription. Then, you can save your tests to respondus and even upload them into other platforms (once WebCT CE becomes obsolete). Responus makes it really easy to create and manage tests/quizzes.

For creating large pools, I use TestGen, Pearson's test-making system and upload to zip files to import into Blackboard. TestGen works with Pearson text banks, but can also be used on its own. I often work from publisher test banks when those are available, editing questions and answers to suit my preferences. I looked at the Respondus site; none of my course textbooks are in its test banks, so that's a minus for one of my courses and neutral for the other two. Can anyone comment, is there anything that Respondus does better than TestGen?

I actually use the test/quiz function as an easy and convenient way to structure and grade homework assignments--mostly short answer stuff. I have a syllabus quiz and a few quick reading quizzes, but that's about it.

if no one has suggested ExamView yet, let me be the first to sing its praises. it is easy to work with, and plays well with Blackboard.
