Changes to USS?

Has everybody who's in USS seen
the speech by the Chairman of the Joint Review Group
that's now up on the web site? At least one of the financial rags is suggesting that this is a precursor to a move to an average-salary scheme.
If there are consultation meetings coming up at any of your institutions in the New Year (I know that USS does a rolling series of presentations to member institutions), you might want to turn up to hear what's going on.

It makes me want to vomit violently that this aspect of my future is in the hands of cretinous UCU operatives.
As for solutions -- I favor being allowed to keep my job until my brain falls out, so I'm not averse to benefit reductions as long as they come in the form of longer contributions and fewer average benefit years. But I imagine the universities are looking for something else.

Not surprising. But depressing. And I do not want to think about UCU involvement in this after the pay claim / ballot fiasco.

As an expat who does not plan to live on the UK that long (who knows it may change), I am really looking forward to watching my average salary drop over the years after I leave.
