I saw a recent position announcement from Abu Dhabi University. Do you have any knowledge of the University- working conditions, quality of worklife, administrative style, and so on?  I have been to Abu Dhabi so I have some sense of the city and life there.  I am more interested in anything you might be able to share about the University.

First of all, I have a friend working in administration there and he likes the place a lot in terms of athmosphere etc, but that might be different for faculty. The limited information I have is that faculty lives on campus in flats and that the teaching load is high but overtime is compensated to the satisfaction of the two people I spoke to. It is not a really academic environment though, you have to keep in mind, this is a teaching university, there is little room for research and no good access to even journal databases. Other than that, I understand the student quality is comparably lower as it is a private institution. Beyond, I know only rumours...

Thanks.  I have been looking at various positions over the last two years but have yet to really make an effort to gain a position in the UAE. Part of the reason is lack of first hand information so your post helps. I also noticed a position at the British University in Dubai so I may post an inquiry later.

May I know your entry level (Professor, Dean, etc) and field? Currently, UAE University in Al Ain is looking for high caliber faculty and academic administrators to boost its ambition to become a world-class research oriented university. The employment package is outstanding.

Good luck.

Thanks.  I sent a PM. I will take a look at UAE U in Al Ain as well. I am assuming current positions will be posted.

I have applied to the UAE University. It's still "under review by the department." How much do they offer to an assistant professor?

Hello Guys,

Actually I have applied to a faculty position at the ECE at Abu Dhabi University. I got an interview like 2 months ago, I have heard nothing so far. I wonder whether that means rejection. Becuase I was expecting a letter/email either for rejection or acceptance...I have to decide now for other plans...If any one knows what approach do these guys obey, please advise ...

Thanks...
