Forget the flu.  I'm curious how many of you have had the "cold from hell" this year.  I managed so far to get by with a simple 2 week cold, but my SO, people from work, and another family member all have this "cold from hell".
Things like intense sinus congestion for over a month.  Bronchitis that becomes bacterial.  Nasty stuff.  Definitely not the flu - not that pattern of illness.  Starts as a cold but takes 4-ever! to go away.  My SO almost never gets viruses like this and has been sick for over a month, dragging on.  Also I know people on both coasts with this.

Just wondering if it's very prevalent or just my local circle.

I have seen some worse-looking colds going around this year here (in the lower Midwest) also. I have had at least one (the other might actually have been H1N1), and it did go into my chest and give me bronchitis as well. At the same time, I have asthma so my colds tend to get complicated.

I had it for all of October, and it absolutely ruined my semester.

Oh, great. Is the cold from hell what I have? I so hope I get rid of this soon! I have just had what had to be one of the mildest cases of H1N1 ever recorded, so now I'm paying for it.

I had what I thought was the cold from hell this spring, but as it turns out was probably H1N1. A friend of mine who had H1N1 cited similar symptoms to what I had: major body aches, sore throat, clogged sinuses that turns into a sinus infection, stiff neck from swollen glands, lost voice for weeks, dead-tired-horror for five days following by dragged-out misery.

Could it be that you have H1N1 and a cold at the same time?

I had what the doc thought were symptoms of the flu, including fever, just very lightly back in October, I think. We had H1N1 running all over campus at the time. If I have H1N1 again, I might have to shoot someone. As for the body pains, stiff neck, and tiredness, I can't tell if those are the cold or whatever, or my chronic illness. I did run myself ragged trying to get ready for Christmas last week so that probably didn't help.

I did at least stay away from the nephew's 2 week old baby the other day. Ugh.

If you aren't better in a day or so, go the doctor.  That crud hangs on forever.  It took a solid 6-7 weeks for me to finally feel moderately normal.

Unfortunately, my doc won't be back in until the 4th and we don't have an emergency clinic. Stupid town.

Crap.  Well, if you're still feeling yucky, go see him on Monday.  Seriously.  You don't want to be sick until Valentines Day.

I suffered through two bouts of what seemed to be pneumonia, but what could have been H1N1.  This made the entire semester incredibly difficult.  Frankly, I am amazed I got through it, and only missed teaching twice.

I'm still a bit bronchial, and I'm still using an inhaler. Bleh.

I am never sick but on the last day of work on the 23rd my throat started feeling a little scratchy.  By the time I got  home I had some sniffles.  I felt a bit achy on Christmas Eve but I powered through what I needed to get done with last minute Christmas stuff.  I felt really lousy Christmas Day and it hasn't improved much since then.  I think there will be a permanent dent in the couch by the time I feel better.  I am on my third large box of kleenex but on the bright side, my abs are getting a workout from the coughing and sneezing.

Definitely had/have it. Whopping headache; massive congestion. Keep thinking I've about licked it and then I succumb again. Not sure if it is a cycle of allergies, drainage, infection thereof, etc. Never developed into flu-like symptoms for more than part of a day on several occasions.

I was running a high fever last night and ended up climbing out of the bed and sleeping on the couch. May do the same tonight. Don't know why my bed is so uncomfortable when I'm sick.

Could be an allergen you are more sensitive to when feverish, or a need for a different angle for adequate respiration/circulation. Sorry you are miserable, Gennimom. Hope you are mainlining water w/electrolytes.
