I'll just chime in with hope that the turn-around time is brief, Froggie. If the cyst starts interfering with your speech or ability to eat (it sounds like it might already be doing that), the surgeon may decide to operate sooner rather than later--at least I hope so! Best of luck!

Danged thing - had to postpone 'til tomorrow because the roads from 98ville were so unexpectedly bad this morning it took me four and a half hours door to door.
More nervous than I should be. It's just a CT w/ contrast.
My dad wants the image files (he's a surgeon whose distrust of American doctors is only reinforcing mine) by email or on a CD or something - what are the chances? Is it likely to cost me?

You just go by the Radiology desk afterward and ask for a copy. They should give you one on a CD free. Every hospital I've been to has done this.

Thanks, gennimom. I have the CD.
I know I'm useless at looking at radiology pictures, but I can't see the lesion on these slices at all, and I'm not sure the radiologist could too (he seemed rather sceptical of its existence until he actually looked in my mouth). I don't know what that means. Maybe should have plumped for an MRI instead.

Huh. That's weird. Yeah, an MRI would have probably caught it. Don't know what else to tell you. Send it to your dad though. If he can't see anything, then I would imagine the doc might have a problem!

Both my dad and my sis (both doctors and very good at it) thought the CT unnecessary altogether and just a money maker, since this lesion should be straightforward to dissect out in regular surgery.

Now that, you might be right about. My sister had one doc tell her he wouldn't order an MRI of her knee as the problem might or might not be visible, and whatever the result, she still needed knee surgery. She liked him for some reason!

Saw the ENT guy - I am officially a Medical Mystery. I mentioned to a colleague a few months ago when we were cleaning up a new lab to move into that it felt like the opening scene of an episode of House (how the frick would you know which chemical/radioactive bits and pieces etc to suspect?). Maybe I was righter than I thought.
I need to wait for the next time it gets big and immediately go to pathology and get a FNA done so we know exactly what's inside it.
While the path said granuloma, it seems likely that the granuloma was actually secondary to an injury to the primary lesion by my toothbrush or some such. Ranula and haemangioma are both back on the differential.
