For the sheer joy of snark:

Quote
The Chairperson will have a terminal degree from a CHEA recognized agency in the teaching area of specialty and possess 5 or more years of teaching appropriate subjects at the college or university level.

But teaching inappropriate subjects is much more fun!

Quote
The successful candidate will demonstrate 21st century pedagogy, problem and project based student engagement, and academically service based learning strategies.

First things first: do they not have hyphens in Jacksonville?

Second, how does one service a learning strategy academically? For that matter, how does one service anything (or anyone?) academically? Does that mean the servicing takes place in the stacks?

Quote
Must be an effective communicator

Translation: We need a department chair who can help us write job ads.

Quote
The Chairperson will have knowledge of the current state of the arts in the field and the skill to introduce and integrate best-in-class practices into the curriculum throughout the department. The successful candidate must be able to inspire others in the department in such a manner as to stimulate an atmosphere of integrity, excitement, unity, progressiveness and an understanding of the 'best practices' in higher education.

Translation: Our teachers suck. They are lazy, corrupt, and hate each other. We need you to make them less sucky, more pure, more hard-working, and more loving. Can you do that?

TRB's translations are spot on and made me laugh. For the record, I don't have any problem with Jacksonville, although I've never been there. To me, it's just a city in Florida.

Anyway, I think we've made sufficient fun of the original job ad. Feel free to use this thread to make fun of other stupid ads.

TRB for the win. This may be the most illiterate job ad ever. And in English, no less.

It reads like it was written by HR. All admin responsibilities, no focus on scholarship at all, and teaching requirements pulled right out of the most recent report.

The weirdest job ad I've seen was for a Women's/Gender Studies position. I can't even remember where it was. They wanted someone who was familiar with 3rd wave feminism. It made me wonder who was on their faculty at the time, that a 3rd wave feminist was such a much-needed addition.
