Mine went well, on the whole. I roasted a duck, which came out beautifully, and put together herb stuffing with giblets, apples, and dried fruits (which ended up tasting much better than I expected). Had it with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, asperagus, cranberry sauce, mixed olives, carrots, and crescent rolls. I washed it all down with a nice chardonnay and had pumpkin pie and whipped cream for dessert. Listened to the football game on the radio while I stuffed myself and spent the rest of the time reading, watching videos, and talking on the phone with a few friends and family. Friday, I put up the tree--without breaking down--and, while the cats are regularly climbing it, so far only one ornament has gotten broken.
Then last night happened. I spent most of the day cleaning and reading and then decided to go upstairs and watch a video. I was taking my glass out to the kitchen sink and missed one of the dogs sleeping on the floor in the shadow of a footstool. When I tripped over her I went down hard, shattering the glass in my hand and removing all the skin from one knee. The cuts to my hand are fairly deep, so it took a bit to get the bleeding stopped, but I have full mobility so I didn't cut any tendons or ligaments, thank heavens. I wasn't really paying any attention to the non-bleeding half of my body, but I must have hit hard there, too, because today I feel like I've gone a few rounds with a professional boxer.
Oh well, four days and only one bad event. I guess I'll call it 75% successful. Not too bad, I suppose. And, I imagine I'll have some permanent reminders of the holiday etched in scars on my left hand. With luck, they'll come to remind me of the 75% good, instead of the 25% that wasn't so hot. But, I imagine that'll come only after my body quits feeling like it was hit by a truck.
