Derail all you want! Heck, I thought this thread was dead, the derail seems to have revived it.

My professors are nothing like Henry's, and I hope I don't have much in common with him, either. Secret handshakes and passwords? Really? (I mean, they can't hand those out until the very end, right?!)

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody, things are feeling better than they were a few days ago. I'm basically just cranking away at the to-do list and trying to let go of questions about the big picture for the moment. And yes, there may be ways to connect fields A and B and do something cross-disciplinary; hopefully I'll find a good one. Once I've got this semester marching along in proper order I'll start worrying about my Glorious Career and all that again.
