I knew I wanted to go from the time I got to college. I knew then that I wanted to be a college professor and that I had to get a Ph.D. in order to be marketable in my field. It also helped that I had a mentor who guided me.

I always wanted to be a scientist (or something similar). As soon as I knew graduate school was a requirement then I knew I wanted to go. Though I will say that I made some uninformed and somewhat arbitrary decisions during the application process. It wasn't for lack of good advice. I just wasn't quite ready to hear some of it.

I figured it out in my last year of undergrad, as it became apparent that I had a deep interest in a specific area of knowledge that I felt had been lacking in my BA program. It just seemed natural to pursue that interest, especially because there are many MA programs that cater to that interest.
