I just wanted to thank everyone who responded to this thread once again, as your replies were very helpful.

Unfortunately, I never got responses from any of the dozens of academic jobs I applied to and, as it turns out, I was able to get a job in the private sector much more easily, so I'm going corporate for the time being.
