Hi
I got an email today saying I have been nominated for "Marquis Who's who". Does anyone know if this is really prestigious or not? When I googled, I found mixed feelings about it.

Thank you very much.

It is prestigious to those that paid to be included.

Stay away from this beast.  I originally felt "honored" when I received the email.  I happily started filling out the information forms, thinking this would be great for my visibility and tenure file.  I stopped when it started asking about my high school, parents' names and occupations, etc....  Too much irrelevant personal information there that could be used for identity theft.

Yeah, but it the timing was good. This is probably the only spam we get that even lets us convince ourselves it is flattering.

Who's Who is simply the beta version of ORT.

My favourite recent version of this one-- I got told I was one selected for one of the millions of sub-directories they put out. Mine was for "the most influential men." I am, however, a woman.

For what it's worth, the University of Washington libraries carry the Marquis Who's Who.  I think this one IS prestigious.  I never got an offer until I had written a number of publications.

Um, no it isn't.

I have a colleague who lists this on her CV, and I cringe every time I see it.

THIS one? As though it should be differentiated from the one in the thread title.

Nope, it's the same beast, utterly lacking in prestige.
