I would love information on UN-L.  In particular, does anyone know the teaching loads for faculty?-- but any other thoughts are welcome.

Thanks.

My guess would be that it may vary by discipline, but I know that at least some UNL faculty in the humanities teach 3-2.

Helpful tip if you do end up with a job here: avoid crowds by doing your Wal-Mart during the Huskers' game. Work every time.

Apologies.  I searched first, using the (notoriously bad) forum search engine, and using the following in google:
  • lincoln  site:chronicle.com/forums/
  • nebraska  site:chronicle.com/forums/
I found nothing.  larryc, can you point to such a thread, or can someone help me figure out how to search better?

I have friends at UN-L in administrative positions not faculty and the only major complaint I hear is about food in the city; in particular not much ethnic food.  Otherwise, low cost of living and easily accessible to bigger cities around.

I think it depends on what kind of ethnic food you're looking for, and how hard you're looking.  (I lived in Lincoln for a while, and still go back semi-regularly)

Unless the respective business have gone under in the last couple years, within walking distance of UNL's campus is Thai, (good) Sushi, Greek, Italian, Mexican, Indian.  (Not to mention a really good vegetarian place!)  I don't necessarily mean chain stuff like Amigo's or Chipotle, although they are within walking distance of campus as well.  Although it has been a while since I've been to the southeast part of Lincoln, there used to be a middle eastern restaurant out in that part of town, not especially far from a Japanese restaurant.  (Can't vouch for either of those still being there, because it has been several years since I've been back to them.)  That said, the majority of ethnic food in Lincoln does tend to be concentrated downtown.

Ethnic food?  Try the Hiway cafe. Authentic Nebraska roadside cuisine!  BTW: Lincoln is a great place to live and work; UNL is noted for the support offered to their faculty.

Their faculty in my discipline are strong and, in a STEM discipline with
sometimes notoriously unfriendly faculty, UN-L's group really shines.
They seem to be incredibly nurturing.

I can't imagine being in town for  a Husker's game---it was bad enough at
Rival U when their fans drove in to watch them shellac us.
