Does anyone have any sense of what the Contemporary Hispanic Studies program at Oregon State U might be like?

Is this a good route for someone to take while deciding whether to pursue a PhD in Latin American Studies, Latin American Literature, or Latin American History?

Would you get into a good or at least decent PhD program after getting this particular MA at Oregon State U?

Master of Arts in Contemporary Hispanic Studies

The MA in Contemporary Hispanic Studies began accepting students in the fall of 2006. The program is unique among Oregon graduate offerings in that it is not focused on traditional activities such as literary criticism or linguistic analysis, but rather on a set of courses and field experiences that will help students address real-life issues in intercultural communication in a state with a rapidly increasing Latino population. The application deadline has been extended through July 10, 2009 for students who wish to enroll in fall, 2009

Most of the top Hispanic Studies/ Spanish programs in the US accept PhD students straight from the BA. In those cases, any Masters level work even remotely related is enough to demonstrate that someone with a blah BA is ready to transition into the program. Many of these programs welcome students with a wide variety of experiences.

That being said, although I am not familiar with it, the description of this program looks like it would be more geared towards Latinos and sociology - as such, it would not be an ideal prep for Latin American anything.
