New Year's resolution: Teach to the syllabus

« on: October 31, 2009, 09:59:19 PM »

I'm not the only parent to sample the goods after a holiday. I know I'm not. What are your rules? Here are mine:

1. If kids are awake, ask before sampling. If they are asleep, follow rules 2 onward.

2. Never, ever take the last of anything. If there are 5 peanut butter cups left, taking one is okay, but if only 2 or 3 are left, they must be left untouched.

3. Bury the wrappers in the trash can.

4. Never take a known favorite. My son adores airheads. I happen to not like them, but I'd never dream of touching them because they are a favorite.

5. Candy eaten from kids' stashes contain no calories and no guilt if the above rules are followed.

So what are your "rules"?

Boy, you have thought about this a lot more than I have.

My kids get too much candy and are too young and laid back to get too worried about us pilfering their stash.

I guess my only rule is not to eat so much that I get sick.

Astrogal: damn fine tag line.

Stealing kids' Halloween candy is just mean.  My parents would never have done it.  Of course, part of our Halloween ritual was sitting on the living room floor sorting the candy into categories, so we knew exactly what we had.  And the stuff we didn't like -- are you listening, Mounds & Almond Joy? -- we graciously gave to our Mom.

I miss the post-TT ritual.

Hmmm...tt can stand for "tenure track" and "trick or treat".  Coincidence?  I think not!
