To the previous thoughts, I would add:  Ask your part-time (adjunct) or full-time contingent faculty what they want and what would help them do their jobs better, but if you do, don't subsequently ignore all the feedback you get.  Everyone knows that times are tough and higher pay might not be in the cards, but some things cost very little and mean a great deal both in practical terms and in terms of symbolizing respect.  It's bad never to be asked, but to be asked and then ignored creates cynicism.
