You know it's a bad day when you put your mobile phone in a ziplock bag before heading to the beach...

I went this morning before the weather got to bad and while the tide was reasonably low. There is shingle and seaweed everywhere, and the walkway wall that I usually hop over is blocked with large chunks of trees. My specs were practically opaque with salt spray by the time I had managed to extricate myself (and the tide was out!).

18C!

I'm retreating to the back garden with a glass of something chilled before the weather wakes uo and realises that this shouldn't be happening!

BBC Weather claims it will be unusually mild through the first week of November.

Of course, it was chucking it down at my place this morning....

From what I can see, we are in for mild and wet, not mild and good. I am longing for some sunshine, even if it is accompanied by frost.

Sorry, 18C and uninterrupted sunshine all afternoon down here. I'll see if I can shove some of it your way . . . although when I looked at the Met Office map, scotiaville did seem to be hidden behinds a cloud and raindrops graphic :-(

Eek! Supposed to be *warmer* tomorrow.

Thank you. Tomorrow looks promising, but I was hoping for a fine weekend to entertain scotiabrother and show him the delights of this part of the world. It is difficult to see much if general murk and gloom are blocking the views.

Even by my standards yesterday was a touch damp. Today has been rather better, tomorrow does not look good.

And why are weather forecasters fixated by mild temperatures, even as the Celtic regions are enduring flooding? Getting milder when accompanied by downpours is not a good thing!

I suspect them of counting the savings on their fuel bills . . .

At least they noticed your rain! Several years of life in Aber and Glasgow had me convinced that nothing west of Birmingham actually existed as far as the Met Office was concerned.

May I at this point moan about how I have to endure a winter in these Northern Isles after last year's SoCal experience?
No?

Okay then, I'll proclaim myself happy with the double glazing we had installed 18 months ago so then had not yet fully experienced. We have had a few parky days so are very happy with the fuel bill savings, but I think it is also this wet and mild* weather that has meant we haven't had to light a fire yet.

Hmmm. I should have guessed that you were back by the way the weather deteriorated ;-)

Thanks.

Actually, I'm reliably told that the weather went to f*ck at least two days before I returned. Though it was some shock to come back to this rubbish!

And I'm stuck in the UK until mid-December....

I'm not :-)

However, most of the less than 4 days for which I escape will be spent on planes, so smugness is not justified.

Yesterday morning I scraped ice off the car for the first time. I was less than amused by the fact that it had rained and then frozen. I think it may be time to move the pelargoniums indoors.
