I am going for anthropology conference in Yale in 24-28 Sep. Any cheap accomodation? I have already sought the graduation listing, but none really available. Any ideas would be very much welcomed.

Thanks.

Try the Omni. I went to Yale for a conference several years ago, and the Omni gave us a Motel 6 type rate. I went back later to do research, on my own, and got an equally low rate again from the Omni. Great accommodations!

I frequently visit New Haven to do research in the Yale archives.

The Hotel Duncan is $50 a night, but it's pretty minimalist. Expect very old rooms that haven't been renovated in decades, and be warned that the motel staff tends to be quite cranky. You'll have to turn in your room key to the front desk each time you leave the building, which is annoying. The good part is that it's on Chapel Street, about a 5-10 minute walk to campus. If you just want a room with a bed and don't care about amenities or outstanding customer service, it's your best bet. If the Duncan doesn't sound like it'll float your boat and you're looking for something else within walking distance of campus, I'd recommend trying Priceline Negotiator. Limit your search to "Downtown New Haven." On my last trip, I got the Courtyard By Marriott at Yale for $60 a night that way (the hotel's advertised nightly rate was $137).

Finally, if you plan to drive in to town or to rent a car, there are a few budget motels along the I-95 corridor that are bearable. I stayed at the West Haven Super 8 last winter. It was basic, but it was clean and safe. It was a 10-minute drive to Yale, and I parked in a garage near the intersection of Chapel and York that I believe was $15 a day.
