In CA, unless a union pushes for this, adjuncts do not contribute to State Disability Insurance.  This means that we are not entitled to Paid Family Leave should we need to take time off to have a child, or Paid Disability leave should we somehow become injured and not be able to work.

In the interest of protecting what little income I bring in, I started looking into Disability Insurance plans.  I've called several major insurance companies, and what I've discovered is that I can get coverage...if I can prove that I work 30hrs a week.

Now, I do work 30hrs a week - I work way more than that, in fact - but I'm technically only paid for 12hrs a week.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around this short of having an insurance agent shadow me for a week?  Or, does anyone know of a company I can go through without this requirement?  Or have any other suggestions regarding disability income protection?
