Does anyone know anything about these people?  They want to publish my MA thesis.  It is only 38,000 words.  They aren't asking for any money, but nor are they sending it out to reviewers or expecting any revisions.  This seems odd.  What do I do?  Is it worth getting a publication out of them, or should I hold off for something more substantial from a more prestigious publisher/  But that would mean writing a book!  And, Lambert allow you to reuse 80% of the material anyway, so I still could write a book using the work anyway.  At the moment I am just starting my PhD so don't really want to write a whole new book.  So, do I go with Lambert?

Someone is almost certainly going to post here any minute telling that Lambert is like VDM, only smaller, and is worthless as an addition to your CV. I myself know nothing about Lambert, however.

The way to use your MA thesis to build your CV is to publish the best bits as peer reviewed articles.

Lambert academic publishing is an arm of the Verlag Dr. Mueller "publishers". See the VDM thread. They are, as far as I'm aware the same company.

Lambert is indeed an affiliate of VDM, and publishing your MA thesis via this company would be a terrible mistake.  (If you must publish it through Lambert, keep this information off your CV entirely.  A Lambert publication on your CV will not work in your favor.)

Publishing your MA work via a series of articles is a vastly smarter move.

Lambert is the home of "throwed rolls" in Sikeston, Missouri.  I believe that is all you need to know about this publisher.

Here's the thread:

http://chronicle.com/forums/index.php/topic,45997.0.ht

I haven't read the entire thread, but I don't see what you'd gain from publishing your MA thesis with this "publisher."  Whenever you have something published, you should gain something.  I don't see what you gain here, other than being able to tell people that you're "published"; however, this "publisher" doesn't appear to have any standards, so even if your work is truly "publishable," you don't want it published by a company that will publish Grandma Betty's poetry collection about bird watching (Byline: this is her first poetry collection; she started writing upon retirement)...(this example is culled from my own experiences in the creative writing world, but you get the point). The fact that the company doesn't even care about revisions or peer-review is all you need to know.

VDM comes out of the German academic world, where 1) there are no university-affiliated presses, and 2) all theses must be published, so there is a need over there for VDM and similar presses. But you're not there. Assuming you're an American academic, 1) and 2) don't apply. Save that MA thesis for a great article or two.

Please note the quality of the site that comes up when you search for Lambert Academic Publishing.  Also note that a normal publishing site has a catalog which lists all the different publications.  This website refers visitors to bookstores which supposedly sell all their books.  Which books?  I advise you to find any books in print that have been published by this supposed publisher.  Please look at the fine print.  In order to forward all the royalties to the author, this supposed publisher requires your bank account details.  Suspicious yet?
