I am curious about what jobs, precisely, community colleges are preparing nontraditional students to acquire, who have returned to school after being displaced by economic transformations, such as the loss of manufacturing? Further, are there any longitudinal studies that track the outcomes experienced by these students after they have been refitted and reintroduced into employment markets? Are they better off or are they worse off? I continue to hear the prototypical argument that Americans need to acquire additional education - postsecondary degrees - in order to maintain middle class living standards. Is there truth to this truism?
thanks in advance,
